VMware

VMware is a company that specializes in virtualization and hardware programming. It develops software for creating virtual machines (VMs) and virtual environments that emulate physical computer systems.

VMware products are well known among IT professionals and are associated with virtualization technology.

History of VMware company

VMware was founded in 1998. A year later, it presented its first product - VMware Workstation - a program for OS virtualization, which worked on Windows and Linux platforms. In 2021, VMware created solutions for workplace virtualization: VMware GSX Server and VMware ESX Server.

In 2004, the company became part of EMC Corporation. The company entered the stock market on August 14, 2007.

In 2016, EMC Corporation was acquired by Dell Technologies. Prior to that, VMware laid off about 800 employees and some executives resigned. In the same year, the company announced the launch of  компания объявила о запуске VMware Cloud, a product designed to support the cloud infrastructure. 

2020 was a challenging year for the company and its employees. VMware was fined $236 million for patent infringement using technology for an IT process management system owned by Densify. That same year, VMware moved 60 percent of its workforce to telecommuting. Employees who moved from California to less expensive states got a pay cut.

In 2022, Broadcom announced that it would acquire the outstanding shares of VMware. Broadcom also agreed to assume the company's $8 billion in debt.
