Who is an EV certificate suitable for?
We recommend installing SSL certificates in cases where a high level of user trust and organization status is important.
- Banks
- Major brands
- Charity organizations
1. Is it possible to get a green bar with an EV SSL certificate?
Previously, browsers highlighted the address bar in green for websites with EV certificates. The green bar vividly showed that the website had installed a certificate of the highest level of trust. Now most developers have abandoned this solution, so there is no way to get the green bar with the purchase of an EV certificate.
2. What do websites with an EV certificate look like?
If an EV certificate is installed on the website, the user can see the name of the organization to which the domain belongs. To do this, just click on the lock in the address bar. Other types of certificates (OV and DV) do not provide company data.
If the domain is protected by an EV certificate, visitors can check that the website really belongs to the claimed organization
3. How to get an EV certificate?
It takes 10-14 days to get an EV certificate. To get a certificate, the buyer fills out a questionnaire. It provides information about the organization and contact persons. You must also attach copies of documents. Usually the certificate of entry into the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and the certificate of registration with the tax authority are sufficient.
- Basic verification includes validation of the domain: an email is sent to the mailbox specified when the application is sent. The administrator needs to click on the link in it.
- The certification center then examines documents and information about the company in public directories. Sometimes they may call the organization to check contact information.
- If the check is successful, the customer will receive an SSL certificate, which must be installed on the website.
4. Limitations of an EV certificate
It takes 10-14 days to obtain an EV certificate and it is only available to legal entities. For small and medium-sized projects, OV or DV certificates are usually sufficient.
