Large backup copies do not remove completely from S3 storage

Large backup copies do not remove completely from S3 storage

Symptoms

  • Backup copies with more than 90GBytes can not be removed from S3 storage completely
  • Backup copies can not be removed from S3 storage completely after the size of the backup copy volume has changed.

Reasons

Small size of the backup copy volume could lead to creation of more than 1000 parts of a backup copy and that causes creation of pages of files on S3 storage’s side. Ispmanager 6 is not permitted to manage files on these pages.

Solution

Increasing size of the backup copy volume will lead to dividing backup copies to a smaller number of parts.

To change the size of the backup copy, add the parameter "BackupSliceSize" to the ispmanager 6 configuration file "/usr/local/mgr5/etc/ispmgr.conf" and set its value.

For example, if the value is set up as “1024M” then the backup copy of 100GBytes will be divided into 100 parts.
